Donald:

I love the Lean Horse 100/50/30 and 20 mile endurance run. Royce Wuertzer, his family, Jim Hadd, the co-race director, and their army of volunteers, do a top notch job hosting a well run running event on the Mickelson Trail. This abandoned rail trail certainly showcases much of the beauty of the Black Hills! Thank you all, for everything you do!
Although the course is a rail trail, it is anything but flat. This is a great benefit since it provides you a chance to look up from your feet so you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery.
I had two friends joining me on the run, Sarah Zweig was running her first ultra, the 30 miler. Alicia Hare was running the 50 miler. I had registered for the 50 miler and was to run it with Alicia, but had to back down to the 30 miler, because of a knee issue.
The various races start at different times and locations, but all finish at the high school track in Custer South Dakota. Since both the 50 and 30 miler are point to point, I was able to delay the start of my running until Alicia arrived at my race’s starting line, which was the 20 mile point for the 50 mile race.
Sarah completed her first ultra, and is still feeling so happy.
Alicia and I had a great time, supported by our spouses and the great aid stations along the course. I was able to help Alicia PR this course by approximately 20 minutes! We all enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and saw several snakes! I am already looking forward to next year’s race!

Sally:

Fantastic race! Would love to do it again sometime!! Thank you for all the hard work.

Cassidy:

Thank you & your world class volunteers for a spectacular event! I had such a great time!

Bill:

Belated thanks from me to Royce, all the organizers and all of the volunteers for a first-class race and wonderful experience. This was my first 100-miler, and I had an indescribably great time last weekend. The course was beautiful, the weather cooperated, the aid stations were perfectly spaced, and every time I stopped, the aid volunteers were super-helpful and encouraging, even at 2 in the morning. This was unforgettable and awesome and I can’t say enough to thank everyone.

Michael:

Truly an awesome event guys! Top notch volunteers. Amazing aid station support. It really felt like one big family! Great to be back!

Maggie:

I would love another buckle! My favorite race

Tim:

As a first time 100 mile finisher this year at this event, I say YES. Good course, great support and I loved the “night” portion of the race being in the middle instead of the end.
